What is an ADHD Coach?

An ADHD coach is trained to work collaboratively with clients with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) to identify and achieve personal goals. In an ongoing partnership, the coach helps the client develop the self-awareness, skills, and strategies necessary to determine where they are, where they want to be, and how to get there. Coaches support clients by providing encouragement, offering feedback, and helping them build productive habits and systems to achieve their personal goals and reach their full potential.

It's also important to know what ADHD coaching is NOT - it is not therapy, counseling, mentoring, training, teaching, tutoring, or advising. ADHD coaches are not trying to "fix" their clients; we belive our clients are "naturally creative, resourceful, and whole" and have the power within to come up with strategies and solutions that maximize their strengths, talents, and values. Clients know what they want, and working with an ADHD coach can help them identify and remove barriers, focus on self-awareness, and manage personal change as they work toward their goals.

Coaching FAQ

Please contact me if you can't find the answer to your question!

It depends! First we'll do a COMPLEMENTARY 30-minute Discovery Session to see if we are a good fit. If you choose to move forward with me, we'll then do a $100 60-minute Strategy & Planning session, where we dig deeper into where you are currently, where you want to be, and what is stopping you from getting there. The next step would be to choose a coaching package that works for you. Please contact me for additional pricing options if 30-minute or 60-minute sessions would work better for you.

Sadly, coaching is not covered by health insurance.

The Strategy & Planning session and the coaching sessions are paid for in advance via PayPal. You can pay using a PayPal acount or a credit card.

If you are running late, please email and let me know. If you are more than 10 minutes late or miss an appointment without notice you may need to forfeit the session. Please give me at least a 24 hour notice if you know you need to miss a session so we can reschedule. Without 24 hour notice, you will be charged or rescheduled at my discretion.

Coaching works best for people who realize that they need help and are ready to make a change in their lives. It can be really helpful for students and others who need help with time management, focus, organization, and other executive functions.

We talk! You choose the topic for each session, and I follow your lead. I will support you in working toward your goals, and we can discuss barriers you may be facing and ways to overcome them. We will work on action steps to bring you closer to where you want to be and celebrate your achievements.

About Liz

Elizabeth McCarron, EdD, CALC

Hi, I'm Liz!

Liz photo I’m an ADHD life coach who collaborates with clients to identify and achieve their personal goals. I help people with ADHD determine where they are, where they want to be, and how to get there. When they struggle with symptoms of ADHD we work together to build productive habits and systems to overcome their barriers and reach their full potential.

I worked in higher education for more than 25 years. As a faculty member at a university, I taught, advised, and supported students as they navigated the college experience. I also tutored high school students and helped them to prepare for selecting and applying to schools. It was tutoring that set me on my new path; one that helped students with ADHD and learning disabilities (LD). My eyes were opened to the struggles faced by one student in particular. His immense knowledge, cleverness, and creativity were not recognized by his teachers, and he was often called lazy or told to try harder. What many did not realize is that people with ADHD actually learn differently so their learning strategies needed to be different too.

I found myself researching more and more about the brain and soon gained a better understanding of what people with ADHD and LD face when they transition to college or to life as adults. But I wanted to do more. I discovered ADHD coaching, which doesn’t try to “fix” clients but rather sees these individuals as “naturally creative, resourceful, and whole” who, with a little help, can develop solutions that work with their talents and strengths. I’m now a trained and certified ADHD life coach and I collaborate with clients to help them discover strategies that work for them and help them to succeed.
